Finland named world’s happiest country for sixth consecutive year

Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the sixth time in a row, according to the World the report regarding happiness, which is being prepared by a group of experts commissioned by the United Nations (UN).

Six key factors are taken into account in preparing the World Happiness Report. Among them are income, health, social support, level of freedom, generosity and lack of corruption.

According to the results of the 2023 ranking, Finland once more took first place with a significant lead over the pursuers. At the same time, the top three happiest countries remained unchanged – followed by Denmark and Iceland. Of the top ten, Israel showed the greatest growth: it rose from ninth to fourth place. Among the leaders were the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand. Russia ranked 70th in the ranking, and Ukraine – 93rd.

Afghanistan and Lebanon are recognized as the most unfortunate countries in the world: they took 137th and 136th places, respectively.

The first World Happiness Report was published on April 1, 2012. The report was the first to lay out the principles of world happiness, the causes of happiness and poverty, and the consequences, which were highlighted in case studies. In 2013, at the UN level, it was decided to make this report an annual one.
