If you closely follow the Canadiens’ hopes this year, it is now obvious that the young Lane Hutson has quickly risen through the ranks since the draft and is currently considered by many to be the Canadian’s best prospect with Juraj Slafkovsky.
Mathias Brunet spoke regarding him on BPM Sports
“There was a time at the start of my career when I got really carried away with hopes… I still get carried away but I’m much more careful with experience. But Lane Hutson, I’m telling you here.. It is special.
There he is a finalist for the Hober-Baker trophy, he is the only defender out of 10 candidates, so he is considered the best defender in the NCAA ahead of Luke Hughes.
The Hobey-Baker, at 20-21-22 years old is very very good, but finalist at 18 years old is amazing.
Normally if you produce at such a rate at 18 in the NCAA, it’s a very good sign that you will be able to carry this level of play in the NHL because you dominate once morest guys 4-5 years older “
He even went so far as to say that Hutson might become the best player among the CH picks in the 2022 draft, ahead of Juraj Slafkovsky.
Wow, ok, we’re taking that statement lightly for now, but it shows how much Brunet believes in Hutson’s ability to become a mainstay in the NHL.
