Stimulus checks in 2023: which states pay them and amounts

For months, inflation registered its highest levels in the last 40 years, so several states approved the sending of stimulus checks or tax refunds to their residents.

Although the year-over-year inflation rate fell from 7.7% to 7.1% in November, according to the Labor Department’s Consumer Price Index report, several entities continue to send money in December and will continue next year.

California

The shipment of Middle Class Tax Refund up to $1,050 it continues into December and into 2023. Payments started shipping in October but will continue through January of next year. Here more information and payment dates.

South Carolina

Taxpayers who filed their 2021 South Carolina individual income tax return by October 17 may receive a reimbursement up to $800 before December 31.

Colorado

Taxpayers who requested an extension to file their tax return for tax year 2021, which was due on October 17, will receive up to $750 before January 31 of the next year.

Idaho

Governor Brad Little authorized the shipment of tax refunds of $600. Payments began in September, but will continue until early January of next year. Here more details on eligibility and how to claim.

Illinois

Eligible Illinois residents might receive two payments in 2023: an income tax refund of $50 or $100, and a property tax refund of up to $300. Refunds started going out in September but it will take several months to finish shipping.

Massachusetts

In November, the mailing of a refund to taxpayers of approximately the 14% of your state tax liability. Anyone who paid personal income taxes for the 2021 tax year and filed a 2021 state tax return on or before September 15, 2023 is eligible. Here more details.

New Jersey

About 2 million New Jersey households are eligible for property tax refunds through the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program. Homeowners are eligible for either $1,000 or $1,500, while renters can receive up to $450.

There is no confirmed shipping date yet, but the state treasury spokeswoman said it would be “no later than May 2023,” according to Patch.com.

New Mexico

State residents can still receive a reimbursement of $500 to single taxpayers and $1,000 to joint taxpayers. Residents have until May 2023 to file their 2021 income tax return and qualify for a refund.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania has been sending out a refund of property taxes or rent paid in 2021 for seniors. The maximum standard rebate is $650, but those who qualify for supplemental rebates can receive up to $975.

The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 a year for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded. The deadline for applications is December 31.

Virginia

Taxpayers will receive $250 tax refunds ($500 for those who filed a joint return). Eligible residents who filed following July 1 should receive their refund before the end of the year.
