The number of active broadband connections continues to increase

RTR Internet Monitor for Q3 2022 just released

Vienna (OTS) At the end of the third quarter of 2022, there were a total of 13.9 million broadband connections in Austria, of which 2.6 million were in the fixed broadband category and 11.3 million were in the mobile broadband category. “The current RTR Internet Monitor shows once once more that broadband penetration in Austrian households is currently at a very high level! With fixed broadband it is 63%, with mobile broadband, for example realized via Cubes with flat rate tariffs and tariffs with limited data volume, it is almost 66%. For smartphone tariffs, the penetration is 207%, ie statistically speaking, every Austrian household has more than two mobile phone contracts for smartphones,” says Dr. Klaus M. Steinmaurer, Managing Director of RTR for the Telecommunications and Post department, further figures from the recently published RTR Internet Monitor.

Mobile cubes are a big hit in Austria’s households

“If you look at the technologies used in broadband connections, mobile cubes with flat-rate tariffs are the clear favorites in Austria, accounting for 38% of all broadband connections. On broadband via the good old copper telephone line and via cable 23% each, on broadband via fiber optics 5%. This means that all households now have a broadband connection, at least according to the statistics,” explains Steinmaurer.

The RTR Internet Monitor for the third quarter is published on the RTR website at and contains extensive market data on fixed and mobile broadband, evaluations from the RTR network test and analyzes of data from the Central Information Center for Broadband Supply (ZIB).
