Since its creation in 2018, World Recycling Day has aimed to raise citizens’ awareness of the challenges of recycling and encourage them to do so.

This day is also a good time to talk regarding the importance of sorting waste, which plays an essential role in the recycling process.
“I would like to give a medal to all Quebecers who, for many years, have made the effort,” explains Marc Olivier, professor-researcher at the Center for Technology Transfer in Industrial Ecology. “Yes we have improved, but there is still a long way to go.”
The professor explains that it is important to put in place strategies to allow citizens to do a good sorting at home.
“We have implemented a number of changes over the next four years to improve the performance of our waste management,” he says. “What will change in a visible way is the consignment. Today, we have a deposit for certain aluminum cans only, bottles of soft drinks, but within four years, all beverage containers from 100 ml to 2 L will have a deposit. .”
For this change to be made, Mr. Olivier explains that 1,500 additional drop-off points will be set up to be able to accommodate the containers.
