Care and alerts when exercising in full heat

(CNN Radio Argentina) – Cardiologist Jorge Francella, of the Department of Physical Education of the Hospital de Clínicas, offered in CNN Radio a series of precautions when doing physical activity in the heat.

“We will always fight a sedentary lifestyle, but not at any cost”established Francella in Hour 10, with Francisco Olivera. There he communicated that every time we move we produce heat, which must be dissipated, and that our organism is constantly maintained at 36 °C. “If the air around us is below five degrees of what we are at least, we can easily lose heat. But if that temperature approaches or does not exceed us, we gain heat.”he remarked.

He also emphasized hydration: “If I do physical activity in a heated environment, the better. If it is outdoors, I will have to recover the water every fifteen minutes even if I do not feel thirsty because when I feel thirsty, I have already lost 1% of the body’s water”. At this point, he recommended offering water to both children and the elderly because “they don’t perceive heat in the same way as an adult.”

“The floor and walls radiate heat. It’s good to be active, but you have to take care of yourself”, highlighted the intensity of the exercises. And he added that it is necessary to take into account the times and areas in which they are carried out, ways to recover the water and have light clothing that refracts the heat and solar rays.

“Going out for a run with a lot of sun is not healthy, these people try to do activities with the idea of doing better. And these people can regulate these tips, but there are others who cannot,” said the doctor.

In turn, he pointed out that sleep is an indicator of tiredness and “it is not ideal” to carry out physical activity in case our body shows these signs. “Let’s take care of our body and if we are tired, surely the body needs to recover. This does not mean that the habit is going to be lost, but that we are going to be prudent at that moment”Francella pointed out.

Finally, he advised to carry out clinical and cardiological control studies in case of daily activity. And an aptitude, in case of a “more intense and sporting activity”.
