In Medicine, more tension for a “new” subject

The apparent decision of the authorities of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNLP to modify the study plan, changing a subject of the emblematic career, from elective to compulsory, opened a new chapter of tension in that community. Among the students there are complaints regarding what is considered a retroactive rule change for those who started with another plan and at the same time, a stumbling block that will delay graduation.

According to the statements made in the last few hours, the table was raised from the transfer of the Intensive Care subject to the list of compulsory fifth-year subjects (one before the end of the degree, prior to the compulsory final practice).

Until now, you might choose to take it from a list and thus cover that quota of subjects that are considered complementary to medical training.

The pandemic revalued the specialty but in the classrooms they seem to have found out at the end of the debate, with the decision made.

From the Remediar student group, which commands the student center, it was indicated that “a few days ago, we have been noticing that changes are being made in our percentage of the career in the Siu (university computer system). This is due to the incorporation of the Intensive Care course as a compulsory subject for the 5th year”.

In this sense, from the group it was pointed out that “the incorporation of this matter was approved in the Board of Directors of the year 2022, but what was approved was that the matter be incorporated as mandatory for those who entered from 2023, never automatically. retroactive, for which we demand that the authorities reverse this modification”.

The case adds tension in an academic unit that has been dragging claims around training. With a widespread modality of virtual classes, even when other faculties resumed following the isolation due to the pandemic, the claims for face-to-face classes were raised.

Along with that, the evaluation method was also questioned in several subjects where high failure rates were recorded over the last two years.

The climate of convulsion led to resignations and presumed forced retirement from the teaching staff. There was also a resignation in the student relationship area of the dean’s office.

“That it is mandatory is great because the pandemic demonstrated the need, but the discussion is how this process is carried out and it is not even notified. It is just taken for granted and applied. So, someone who is in fifth grade and planned how to perform to graduate, now they change the situation that he had thought regarding. One subject is at least one more month. What was done is not to be contemplative with that planning that we are considering, ”lamented a recent graduate who asked to reserve his identity.

However, it was not ruled out yesterday that some students might go to Court to question the legality of the change, something that has already happened in recent years due to another reform of the study plan.

It is estimated that there are around 300 students in this situation. “We are many students who are affected, mainly those who have finished taking their exams and need to award the PFO (final practice), indicated from Remediar.

On Monday, the center will take a proposal to the deanery, it was indicated yesterday.
