After cancellations: Netrebko receives $ 200,000 from the New York Opera

Austro-Russian opera star Anna Netrebko has been awarded more than $200,000 by the New York Opera. The Metropolitan Opera has to laut New York Times following an arbitral award, pay the fees that Netrebko did not receive following the opera no longer wanted to give her performances. The background to this is Netrebko’s initially unclear stance on Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.

The Met had argued that Netrebko was not in line with the opera house’s code of conduct. An intermediary involved now stated that “there is no doubt that she was a supporter of Putin and had the right to do so”. In his opinion, this is not a sufficient reason not to let them perform.

Netrebko had also requested royalties for future but canceled performances. In total, it was regarding $400,000. The singer earned $15,000 a night in New York.
