Red balloons hung on the ceiling of the cultural location “szene” on Friday evening. Everything was bathed in red light, drums and guitars were set up on stage, songs by Jon Bon Jovi and Oasis might be heard. When the first applause erupted, it was not a band that entered the hall, but the red party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner.
Almost everyone came to the red campaign start of the SPÖ in Salzburg. In addition to the party leader, former chancellor Christian Kern, former state governor Gabi Burgstaller, several mayors and, of course, top candidate David Egger.
But almost everyone came. Hans Peter Doskozil, Burgenland’s governor and challenger to Rendi-Wagner, was not present – even though Egger is considered one of his confidants. He was not in the country, it was said officially.
