Prince Albert II celebrated his 65th birthday on March 14th. In conversation with the USPeoplemagazine, the prince had previously said that he wanted to spend his day of honor with his family. “We’ll have lunch together, and when the kids come back from school, I’ll be kidnapped,” he says in an interview. His twins would have thought of something. “They want to take me to a play, but actually I was only warned that I would be kidnapped.” That he was on the palace balcony but without his Frau Charlene presented, caused speculation (once once more).
Charlene skips Albert’s official birthday celebrations
“Prince Albert II, born on March 14, 1958, celebrated his 65th birthday with his family today,” the palace said on Instagram. The Prince was with his wife and children, Hereditary Prince Jacques and princess Gabriella, had lunch, they said. In the evening, the princely children invited their parents to a theatrical performance created especially for this occasion, entitled “The Witch in the Broom Closet”. A piece by Anthea Sogno and her troupe of actors was staged and performed.
Before that, however, there was a public event in honor of the prince. At midday, during the changing of the guard on the Place du Palais, Albert was congratulated with music by the orchestra of the princely carabinieri on his birthday. For the occasion, the prince appeared on the palace balcony, together with his children. The fact that Charlène was missing caused speculation regarding her health to boil up once more.
In the past it was said once more and once more that the former professional swimmer had difficulties in fulfilling her obligations. She had also previously withdrawn from the limelight altogether due to health issues. After spending several months in South Africa, Charlène went to a clinic in November 2021 for an extended period. “She was clearly exhausted, physically and mentally. She was overwhelmed and might neither face official duties nor life in general or even family life,” said the prince at the time.
Charlène: No congratulations on Instagram
The princess only appeared in public in the evening when they went to the theater together. She also did not publicly congratulate her husband on his birthday. There are no congratulations on Instagram. The last time Charlène wished her husband a happy birthday on social media was in 2019.
