Rescued baby of alcoholic parents dies in Quetzaltenango

This Thursday confirmed the death of baby three months that he was hospitalized in the Regional Hospital of the West following being rescued by agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) on February 25 in Plazuela San Antonio, zone 1 of Quetzaltenango.

The intervention of the authorities occurred because the minor’s parents were under drunk and scandalizing on public roads, while holding him in their arms.

As confirmed by the spokesperson for the aforementioned care center, María del Carmen Sajquim, the child died on March 6 as a result of microcephaly, sudden infant death syndrome and fetal alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

Investigation of baby’s death

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation (PNG) announced that the case is currently in charge of the Public Ministry, an entity that will be responsible for investigating to determine if there is any responsibility on the part of the parents in the death of the child.

It is worth mentioning that the mother of the baby had already been removed from custody, with a judge’s order, of five other children because she was not in a position to take care of them.

Abandoned in mall

On January 7, the Attorney General’s Office (PGN) confirmed that a newborn that was abandoned in the Quetzaltenango capital is stable. The entity also announced that it opened a protection file.

Days ago it was learned that the local firefighters reported that a baby was abandoned in the bathroom of a shopping center in zone 3 of the Quetzaltenango capital.

So, the paramedics went to the place and checked the state of health. Later, they took him to the Regional Hospital of Quetzaltenango, where he was admitted.

The updated information from the hospital is that the baby three or four days following being born is stable. Her health is good and she is fed by the staff.
