(Meet Entrepreneurial Small Business Owners) Jinkyu Kim, CEO of Kimstech “I hope that real silk wallpaper will go beyond the exclusive property of conglomerates”

[뉴스토마토 변소인 기자] These days, when interest in eco-friendliness is rising, there is a story that we need to check the eco-friendliness of the house, where we eat, sleep, and rest. It is necessary to check whether there are no harmful substances that harm the environment and health in the house, which is a space where you stay for a long time and replenish your energy.

Kim Jin-gyu, CEO of Kimstech, a functional natural material (silk) company, emphasizes that we need to look at whether the silk wallpapers sold on the market are genuine silk wallpapers. Representative Kim, who we met at the Advanced Footwear Convergence Hub Center in Sasang-gu, Busan on the 10th, said, “I know that our company is the only wallpaper in Korea that uses only real silk.” “Silk wallpaper in name only” finished with polyvinyl chloride).

Representative Kim regretted that most of them do not know this fact. He said, “Since wallpaper surrounds the whole house, we must use real silk wallpaper, which is a point fiber, for the environment and health.” he explained.

Kims Tech specializes in producing silk products that are resistant to fire, water, and power by processing silk in an eco-friendly way and are beautiful and convenient for everyday life. In particular, we have semi-incombustible fiber board production technology and cellulose semi-incombustible processing technology, so we are making products that do not burn well even if they catch fire. Although it is more expensive than regular wallpaper, CEO Kim emphasized that it is worth it.

The chairman of a conglomerate that is well known by name and the wealthy living in mansions used Kims Tech’s silk wallpaper. Kim’s Tech doesn’t even have a sales team, but it’s being sold through word of mouth from those who appreciate it. This time, it is said that 300 million won worth of silk wallpaper from Kimstech is used to decorate the temple of a religious group.

On the 10th, silk shoes and silk bags were sampled at the Kims Tech factory in Sasang-gu, Seoul.

Kims Tech mainly sells wallpaper coated with its own technology. It has three lineups of paper room wallpaper, cotton wallpaper, and silk wallpaper to distribute the price range. Recently, we are developing washable silk shoes that can be washed with water in collaboration with the shoe manufacturer Adaji. Kims Tech has previously developed a silk material that satisfies the physical properties by participating in the Small and Medium Business Technology Innovation Development Project of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2020. Through this, we plan to manufacture new concept silk shoes that are easy to wear and wash in the lineup of kids, business, and medi (medical).

CEO Kim, who has worked for Daeah Apparel for over 20 years, has been walking on a single path in silk since leaving the company and starting a business. While working at the same time as a formal dress rental business and necktie manufacturing, he was impressed by silk curtains in a castle, silk on chair backs, and silk wallpaper on a trip to Germany, and he began researching functional silk. Since then, he has researched a cellulose semi-incombustible processing technology that makes paper non-flammable like gypsum board, but due to lack of marketability and huge equipment costs at the time, the company eventually went out of business. Then, in 2017, it was re-established as Kimstech.

CEO Kim said, “The field I might do best was silk. When I was young, the market was small, so I abandoned it, but following a 10-year hiatus, no one was still touching it.” We are trying to attack,” he said.

We must overcome the weakness of a market limited to the high end. Representative Kim said, “I hope that real silk wallpaper is not only used by conglomerates, but also those who are interested in interior design, health, and eco-friendliness.” I will try” he said.

CEO Kim has set a sales target of over 1 billion won this year. This is because the contracts already signed this year alone have exceeded 300 million won. Kim’s long-term goal is to grow Kim’s Tech into a world-class silk material company with the eco-friendly, aesthetic, and functional excellence of silk.
