Jirga decided to fine their two daughters aged 7 to 8 as a punishment for a couple who got married without the permission of their mother and father in Thal area of Jacobabad city of Sindh province.
30-year-old widow Hajira Mangi had married a 28-year-old man named Dadu Mangi once morest her will. Hajara has a daughter while Dadu also has a daughter.
Hajra’s parents say that this marriage was done without their permission.
The jirga on this issue was held on the evening of Wednesday 15 March at the residence of tribal chief Zulfikar Khan Sarki in village Garhi Hasan of Thal.

After hearing the matter, the tribal chief decided that for the happiness of Hajara’s family, Hajara and Daduki’s daughters will be handed over to them and married according to the family’s decision.
Apart from this, the Jirga ordered the couple to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh as punishment. 50,000 of the fine was paid on the spot while the balance was ordered to be paid in 2 installments.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared Jirga illegal in 2019.
