New Delhi: Australian star David Warner will lead the Delhi Capitals in place of Rishabh Pant who is resting due to an injury in a car accident. Indian all-rounder Axar Patel is the vice-captain. Delhi Capitals themselves shared this through social media. There were earlier reports that Warner will lead the team instead of Ball.

IPL matches will start from 31st of this month. But it is not certain whether Warner will participate in the ODI World Cup to be held in India in the months of October-November. Warner was Delhi’s captain in the 2009 and 2013 seasons. In 2014, he moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad but was captain there for a year as well. Hyderabad also won the IPL title in 2016.
Pant was injured in a car accident in Uttarakhand on December 30. The accident happened when the car hit the divider while returning from Delhi to Uttarakhand. The vehicle was completely gutted following the accident. Pant was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for surgery and further treatment to fix a ligament problem in his leg. With the absence of Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals had to find a new captain for the 2023 season.
After taking over the captaincy, Warner responded that Rishabh Pant was a great captain for Delhi Capitals. Warner was Delhi’s top scorer in the last IPL season. Delhi will first face Lucknow Super Giants in the match on April 1.
