The German group Dräxlmaier, which specializes in the manufacture of automotive components, laid the foundation stone of a research, innovation and technological development center on Tuesday at the Sousse competitiveness cluster “Novation City”.
Named “Sousse Hub”, this center will be built with an investment of around 45 million euros (regarding 150 million dinars).
The objective is to contribute to the development of the automotive industry and components sector and promote the manufacture of high value-added products, according to a press release from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy.
The center in question will come into operation by 2025 and will promote the employment of 1,000 highly qualified engineers and executives, indicated the Minister of Industry, Neila Nouira Gounji.
Dräxlmaier also inaugurated on this occasion, in Jemmel, a new production unit which will provide, over the next period, 3,000 jobs. As a reminder, the site currently offers 1,000 jobs.
With an investment of 100 million euros (regarding 333 million dinars), this unit specializing in the manufacture of electronic devices for electric cars relies on photovoltaic solar energy for lighting.
Gounji pointed out that Dräxlmaier has chosen to develop its activity in Tunisia through the implementation of new units given the availability of highly qualified human resources in addition to the technological infrastructure.
She recalled in this sense that the partnership charter signed between the public and private sectors operating in the automotive industry sector and its components, aims to attract world leading companies to invest more in this field in Tunisia.
Established in Tunisia since 1974, from a small electrical component assembly workshop, the German group has developed its presence in the country through five production sites and a team of some 10,000 employees.
The group, founded in Germany in 1958, now operates in more than 20 countries around the world and employs more than 80,000 people.
