Oral cancer warning signs and prevention tips

It is known that cancer has many types mouth cancerwhich appears on the lips, gums, tongue, or floor of the mouth, and its causes are due to several factors, including smoking or alcohol consumption, in addition to genetic factors, according to what was published by the Independent website.

Dr Nigel Carter, CEO of the Oral Health Foundation, said traditional causes of oral cancer include smoking and heavy drinking, and the disease is also linked to “emerging risk factors, such as HPV”.

Dr. Nigel explained that the incidence of oral cancer affects the physical appearance of the individual, in addition to always feeling difficult to swallow food and drink, so early warning signs of cancer must be recognized, and if you notice anything unusual, please do not delay and seek help from a doctor.

In the same vein, the National Health Service said (NHS) Oral cancer occurs when a tumor develops on the surface of the tongue or in the lining of the inner cheeks, roof of the mouth, lips, or gums.

Oral cancer symptoms

Painful mouth sores that do not heal even following several weeks

Continuous lumps form in the mouth or neck

Loose teeth or cavities that do not heal following extraction

A change in color in the lip or tongue

White or red spots that form on the lining of the mouth or tongue

Speech changes, such as the sudden development of a lisp (a speech impairment in which a person mispronounces whistling letters)

The NHS recommends limiting tobacco and alcohol intake and maintaining a healthy, balanced diet that includes fresh vegetables, especially tomatoes, as well as citrus fruits, olive oil and fish..
