Thiruvananthapuram: Today is the 84th birthday of Sreekumaran Thampi, who has flourished in Malayalam cinema and literature through poetry, songwriting, screenwriting, directing and production. When asked regarding his birthday, Sreekumaran Thambi’s response was that he lives only because he is not dead. After the death of his son Rajkumar, no birthdays are celebrated. Belief that everything done in life is right. Sreekumaran Thambi told Kerala Kaumudi that there are no plans for a new film or song writing.
Sreekumaran Thampi, an engineering graduate, resigned from his job as an assistant town planner in Kozhikode in 1966 and entered the field of art and literature. Sreekumaran Thambi has composed more than 3000 film songs. Made 25 films. He directed 29 films and wrote screenplays for 85 films. The state government honored him with the J.C. Daniel award for his comprehensive contribution to cinema. He has received many awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
