Paul Magnette declines the offer of the French PS, he will be a candidate in Hainaut

En substance, it’s “no, thank you”. On the set of “Signatures” (RTL) on Wednesday evening, Paul Magnette, just re-elected by the affiliates to the presidency of the party, declined the offer made to him (for the second time, this was already the case in 2019 ) by the first secretary of the French PS, Olivier Faure, to draw his European list for the 2024 elections, in France therefore.

The refusal is not a surprise. Paul Magnette let the (false) suspense live for 48 hours, following the French daily Release, in its Monday edition, would have revived the hypothesis. As a reminder, the current president of the PS had carved out a big popularity on the left in France (but not only) in 2016 when he fought once morest Ceta (Euro-Canadian trade treaty) then as Minister-President of Wallonia. Recently, his book wide life where he explains the concept of eco-socialism has been widely commented on in addition to Quiévrain, where Paul Magnette has multiplied the interviews. All this in a context where the French PS is in search, to say the least, of a new breath, following a catastrophic presidential campaign behind Anne Hidalgo. As for Paul Magnette, as he told us, he will take the federal PS list to Hainaut in May 2024.
