The head coach of the national team, Alexei Zhamnov, did not inform the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) regarding his decision to head the Moscow KHL club Spartak. About it TASS reported in the press service of the FHR.
“The current contract of Alexei Zhamnov with the FHR expires on June 30, 2023. Zhamnov did not inform the Russian Ice Hockey Federation regarding his decision to take the post of head coach of Spartak;
Zhamnov will combine work in the Russian national hockey team and Spartak
Zhamnov headed Spartak on March 14. The coach later said that he plans to combine work in the club and the national team.
Zhamnov has been leading the Russian national team since 2021. He has been the head of the Russian national team. At the Beijing Olympics, the team won silver, losing in the final to the Finns (1:2).
This season, Zhamnov led the national team at one international tournament – the Channel One Cup. The Russians failed to win this competition, defeating Kazakhstan (6:2) and losing to Belarus (4:5 B). The FHR coaching council rated the result of the tournament as unsatisfactory
