18.7 million viewers watched the Oscars

Television viewership of the Oscars ceremony witnessed a significant increase for the second year in a row, with the number of viewers of the event, in which the movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won seven awards, reaching 18.7 million viewers, according to “ABC” station Monday.

That’s a 12% increase in viewership from the previous edition of the show, which was rocked by Will Smith’s slapping of comedian Chris Rock on stage. Despite the increase in the rate of television follow-up to the event, this year’s numbers constitute the third lowest level ever. The evening, which was marked by two singing performances by Rihanna and Lady Gaga, received critical acclaim.
