The delivery of the Antonio Hurtado del Valle Award for the Work of Life to the reporter Roxana Luisa Aedo Cuesta became the high point of the celebration in Cienfuegos of the Cuban Press Day, on the occasion of the 131st anniversary of the foundation this March 14 newspaper Patriaunder the guidance of José Martí.
Such an award honored the trajectory of more than 40 years of this colleague in the territory’s media system, especially at Radio Ciudad del Mar, where she worked as a journalist, presenter and program director. In addition, she was a correspondent for the Central Army and founder of the Fernandina Radio station, of the Office of the City Conservator.
During the ceremony, held in the Ateneo Hall of the Tomás Terry Theater, the Juan David prizes were awarded for the Work of the Year, from the affiliate of the Union of Cuban Journalists (Upec) in Cienfuegos. On this occasion, the jury recognized the professional performance of Roberto Alfonso Lara, Héctor Castillo Toledo, Luzdeibys González Forcades, Mayelín del Sol Santiago and Yuramis Pozo Jiménez, in the sections of Written Press, Digital Press, Radio, Television and Graphic Journalism, respectively. .
The occasion also led to the delivery of the awards corresponding to the second edition of the Andrés García Suárez Provincial Journalism Contest in its different categories, while almost a dozen professionals from the sector received the Félix Elmusa distinction for their outstanding performance in the service of journalism Cuban for more than 15 years.
The ceremony was attended by the highest political and governmental authorities of Cienfuegos, who, in the words of Misleydi Valladares González, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, praised the union’s commitment to the defense of a revolutionary journalism that, heading to the tenth Congress from Upec, is engaged in the search for new ways to manage the country’s media.
