Handover to Mauritania

500 days to the GamesParis 2024, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic network as well as the overseas territories labeled “Terre de Jeux 2024” invite the world to celebrate sport by organizing the “Relay around the world on five continents for 24 hours.
On this occasion, the French Embassy in Mauritania and the Mauritanian National Olympic and Sports Committeeare organizing a celebration of the 2024 Paris Games and the passing of the baton in Mauritania, Land of Games 2024which will take place at the University of Nouakchott at the Faculty of Legal and Economic Sciences, the Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This ceremony will also mark the opening of the University’s sports week.
This large-scale event marks a further step in the cooperation between France and Mauritaniain the sports sector, important vector of cohesion and social integration .
The celebration of the J-500 before the Paris 2024 Games will be opened by a official sequencein the presence of the President of the University of Nouakchott, the Vice-President of the Mauritanian National Olympic and Sports Committee and the French Ambassador to Mauritania. Participants will be able to attend the passage of the baton on the back of a dromedary and a cycle race then visit thesports federation standswho will be represented. Many sports activities will begin the next day, open to students, as part of the University’s sports week.
Many participants, students, top athletes, representatives and members of sports federations are expected.
