A recent incident occurred in (Banhoek Mountains) in Stellenbosch (Stellenbosch), South Africa. Seven climbers climbed the mountain, but when they entered an area by abseiling, they were arrested on the ground. The baboons thought it was “invading the house”, and then the baboons immediately launched a violent attack, causing three people to have their hamstrings broken and seriously injured.

According to the British “Daily Mail” report, the seven climbers went to climb Banjok Mountain. When they reached a narrow rock wall next to a waterfall, they began to climb by abseiling. But at this time, he was discovered by local baboons. Seeing that this group of humans was “landing on the territory”, he felt threatened and decided that this group of humans was “invading the house”, so he formulated a strategy and launched an attack.

It is reported that following two climbers took the lead in rappelling down, the baboons launched a fierce offensive and threw a boulder weighing 60 kilograms directly down, causing the remaining five climbers to dodge. Especially when the boulder was dropped, it instantly broke into multiple pieces of “sharp knives”, causing three of the climbers to “broke their hamstrings” following being hit hard by the sharp stone, and were seriously injured. Another climber suffered minor flesh injuries, and another climber almost fell, but fortunately he was restrained by a safety rope. Not only that, the attack by the baboons is still not over, and they continue to throw stones at the group of climbers, so that the group of people had to hide under a rock wall to avoid being hit by the stones.

The report pointed out that one of the climbers, who was not injured, ran to a place with better reception and sent out a distress signal. After receiving the report, the rescuers immediately dispatched rescuers and finally successfully rescued the injured person down the mountain. Baboon experts pointed out that the structure of the shoulder bones of baboons is different from that of humans, so the angle of throwing stones is not wide, “but they can throw very hard.” Experts said that it is currently unknown whether the purpose of the baboons throwing stones is to drive away the climbers, but the baboons themselves are very curious animals and are quite sensitive to “unaccustomed things”.
