NHL: Andrei Svechnikov on the floor indefinitely

Bad news for the Carolina Hurricanes, who have lost the services of forward Andrei Svechnikov indefinitely.

Svechnikov is struggling with a right knee injury, suffered Saturday once morest the Vegas Golden Knights. Svechnikov then missed Sunday’s game once morest the New Jersey Devils.

“Andrei had magnetic resonance imaging on Monday followingnoon and he saw the team doctors. We continue to gather information with Andrei to make the best decision for his health. We will provide an update when a decision is made,” Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said.

According to Elliotte Friedman, it is possible that the injury suffered was a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament, which would end his season.

The 22-year-old Svechnikov is playing in his fifth NHL season following being selected in the first round of the 2018 draft by the Hurricanes, second overall.

This season, he scored 23 goals and collected 32 assists for a total of 55 points in 64 games. In 347 NHL games, he had 112 goals and 264 points.

The Hurricanes sit atop the Metropolitan Division with 94 points, tied with the Devils.

The Hurricanes have been outscored 7-0 in their last two games. They host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
