Marte Olsbu Röiseland ends her outstanding career following the current season. Norway’s biathlon star confirms this during a press conference.

The Biathlon-Hammer is perfect! Marte Olsbu Röiseland is retiring following the current season.

The Norwegian superstar officially announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. “I don’t have the motivation to do the work every day that it takes to be the best. I think it’s best to cave in while you’re at the top. I also think my body will really appreciate it,” said Röiseland.

The 32-year-old therefore wants to World Cup finals in Oslo (March 16-19) draw a line under their extremely successful career and withdraw from top-class sport.

“Biathlon will always be in my heart. It is therefore something very special that it will be my last World Cup race on the Kollen,” added Röiseland. (all biathlon races in the LIVETICKER)

“It’s very sad, but it also feels very right. I’m really looking forward to what life has to offer. At the moment it’s a bit sad, but also a lot of joy to be doing something else,” said Röiseland.

And added to NRK: “It was a decision that was not made yesterday. I thought regarding it for a long time and felt it all year long. I feel the time has come.”

The Norwegian is the record world champion with 13 gold medals and triumphed three times at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. Röiseland also won two silver medals in 2018 in Pyeongchang and two bronze medals in Beijing.

In the 2021/22 season she also celebrated her first and only World Cup Overall Victory.

In the current season, Röiseland has repeatedly struggled with health problems and only started the season in January. After the double triumph at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof let her possible career end leaked for the first time.
