Paris unveiled a commemorative plaque in tribute to fashion designer Pierre Cardin

Pierre Cardin now has his commemorative plaque in Paris. Erected on the very spot of his iconic boutique, in the 8th arrondissement, the solemn “sign” pays homage to the extraordinary destiny of the couturier who changed the face of fashion.

After Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, or even Azzedine Alaïa, the City of Paris has unveiled the 6 mars 2023a commemorative plaque in homage to Pierre Cardin. Find it at the corner of rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and avenue de Marigny, overlooking the iconic boutique that has just reopened.

An attention to the height of the exceptional history of the couturier, who left his mark in several aspects of the Parisian scene (fashion, gastronomy, theater, …). After a stint at Paquin and Dior, the Italian-born couturier founded his own Couture House in 1950 and presented his first collection 3 years later. In the 1960s, he diversified by launching men’s and children’s lines. 1963 will be a pivotal year. Pierre Cardin will take up the challenge of democratize Haute Couture and above all invent Ready-to-Wear, as well as the principle of licensing. Until his death at the end of 2020, the designer will continue his many experiments, pushing the boundaries of couture a little further. He leaves a legacy to the world of fashion his signature avant-gardestylized from geometric shapes et new synthetic materials.

The plaque also stands at the very location where the Fall-Winter 2023-2024 collection parade took place on March 5, 2023, under the artistic direction of Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, nephew of the designer. The show marked the return of Pierre Cardin to the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week. For this reappearance, Rodrigo has injected a contemporary dimension into the label, betting everything on a more eco-responsible approach (recycling, dormant stocks, synthetic materials).
