ATK Mohun Bagan became the second team to qualify for the finals of the Indian Super League for the 2022-23 season. The progress of the Kolkata club is by defeating the current winners Hyderabad FC at their home ground. In the second semi-final as well, the winners were chosen through a penalty shoot-out. In the first semi-final held yesterday, Bengaluru FC won once morest ISL Shield winners Mumbai City through penalties.
The first leg of the semi-final was a draw when the two teams met at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad. ATK Mohun Bagan came out today with the aim of winning the final ticket in front of their own crowd. Therefore, the reins of today’s match were in the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan. However, it was the performance of Hyderabad’s young goalkeeper Gurumeet Singh that denied the opposition a goal.
The match ended in a goalless draw in extra time and went to a penalty shootout. Hyderabad suffered a setback when Javier Severio’s shot was blocked by ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Keith and Bartholomew Ogbache’s shot went wide of the box. ATK’s Brendan Hamill missed the shot but victory was with the Kolkata side. Vishal Keith is the man of the match today.
The final match of the Indian Super League will be played on March 18 at the Fatroda Stadium in Goa. ATK will be looking for their fourth title in the Indian Super League. Bangalore, on the other hand, will aim for the second title. The field is sure to be on fire as both teams reach the finals, upsetting the reigning ISL champions and this season’s league toppers.
