Oscars.. Brendan Fraser is best actor and “Everything” wins most awards

The movie “Everything .. Everywhere All at Once” (Everything .. Everywhere at the same time) won 3 awards during the 95th Academy Awards, which were held, Sunday, in Los Angeles.

Malaysian Michelle Yeoh won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as a Chinese-American laundry owner in a family crisis.

With this, Yeoh becomes the first Asian woman to win in this category.

At the same ceremony, “The Whale” star Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor award for his role as an obese man trying to reconnect with his daughter.

“Everything… Everywhere at Once” won the Academy Award for Best Picture, while Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schinert won Best Director for the same work.

The 60-year-old Malaysian actress was widely seen as the front-runner for the award following receiving the Screen Actors Guild honor and the Golden Globe award for the role as well. This is her first Oscar nomination.

“For all the little boys and girls watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and potential, proof that big dreams come true,” said Yoh as she accepted her award.

These awards came during the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, which is hosted by the historic Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, and is attended by the most prominent stars of international cinema.

The ceremony is organized by the American Academy of Image Sciences and Arts to celebrate the best cinematic works produced during the year 2023, as the winners are voted on by nearly 10,000 actors, producers, directors and film craftsmen.

The first awards announced were for the animation category, and “Pinocchio” by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro won the Oscar for Best Animated Film.

The film’s story revolves around a father’s wish that magically revives a wooden boy in Italy, and a father-son relationship develops between them.

Also, the movie “All Quiet on the Western Front”, directed by Edward Berger, was the dark horse at the 2023 ceremony, by winning 3 Oscars as well, which are the best foreign film, best production design, and best cinematography.

The film is a German production that takes place during the time of World War I, regarding the devastating effects of war on humans.

The film “Navalny”, whose story revolves around the poisoning that almost killed Alexei Navalny, the most prominent opposition leader in Russia and his arrest since his return to Moscow in 2021, won the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary.

His wife, Yulia Navalnaya, said on stage, “Alexei, I dream of the day when you will be free and our country will be free.”
