Rotten news, “even if only in part”, risks far exceeding expectations

Many resort to removing moldy parts of bread and extracting healthy parts to eat, but experts warn once morest this behavior because of its health damage.

According to the British newspaper “The Sun”, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture advises to get rid of the entire loaf of bread if mold is visible, even if it is in part of the loaf, adding that some types of mold cause allergies and respiratory problems.

According to this argument, not seeing mold on the other parts of the loaf does not mean that it is edible.

Experts said that people at risk of eating moldy bread are the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

The World Health Organization says that mycotoxins (molds) can cause a variety of adverse health effects, and pose a serious risk to human health.

And doctor Patrick Hickey warned that “if a large amount of toxic mold is consumed with bread, it may cause intestinal symptoms and more serious effects, including liver or kidney failure, or even death.”

According to Thorun Govind, Chairman of the English Pharmacy Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, “Some people can be more sensitive to these problems than others, such as those with weakened immune systems, the elderly, infants and children.”
