The Ministries of Defense and Interior announced in a joint statement the killing of three terrorists, the arrest of the fourth, and the martyrdom of a gendarme, one of the heroes of the valiant armed forces.
The statement added that the Supreme Security Committee, in charge of following up the file, received a number of information, which it analyzed and suggested, including the hypothesis that the terrorists are present in an area in the state of Adrar.
And the two ministries added that following analyzing the information, it was confirmed, and then tight coordination began between the air and ground forces, which led to locating the terrorists, following they had entrenched themselves in a rugged mountainous area.
The statement confirmed that during combing and search operations carried out by ground units and gendarmerie units specialized in combating terrorism, the latter came under heavy fire, which led them to engage in a clash with terrorist elements.
The Supreme Security Committee expressed its sincere thanks and congratulations to all members of the armed forces and security forces for this qualitative operation, and highly appreciated the patriotic gift made by the people and when everyone had a spirit of vigilance and constructive cooperation.
The Supreme Committee reminded everyone that the armed forces and security forces will remain, with God’s help and strength, the strong shield for the security and stability of our dear country.
The two ministries also stated that the security committee began its work on the instructions of President Mohamed Ould Al-Ghazwani, following the cowardly terrorist operation that claimed the lives of two martyrs and two wounded members of the National Guard last Sunday evening, corresponding to March 5, 2023, in the central prison in Nouakchott, during which the four terrorists managed to escape, and remained in a state of condition. A permanent and continuous meeting to assess and follow up the situation, in order to work for the fastest arrest of the fugitives.
