Engines must run on alternative fuels
Vienna (OTS) – “Driving and climate protection are not mutually exclusive – it depends on what goes into the tank. Instead of sticking to a rigid way of thinking and constantly shooting at drivers, we as the People’s Party stand for holistic solutions. After all, economy and ecology go hand in hand and are mutually dependent. You have to promote serious climate protection with innovation, technology and progress. In the fight once morest climate change, there must be no ideology-driven symbolic politics,” says the environment and climate spokesman for the People’s Party, Johannes Schmuckenschlager.
“It is sheer stubbornness to argue that phasing out the internal combustion engine is the only way to mitigate climate change. Bullying drivers and commuters and not mentioning all other actions that are harmful to the climate and the environment with the same intensity is completely the wrong way, and also completely unfair to drivers. In addition, we must not forget the people in rural areas who depend on the car. When it comes to climate protection, common sense must not be forgotten: the federal government under Chancellor Karl Nehammer has already taken countless measures and steps to promote climate protection in Austria,” said Schmuckenschlager.
Finally, Schmuckenschlager emphasizes: “The true climate protectors don’t sit on the street, but climb onto the roof to install PV systems. We need to tackle climate change not with glue on our hands, but with a wrench in our hands. With courage, confidence and investment, we can manage to run today’s diesel or gasoline-powered engines with alternative fuels.”
