Doctors are still not sure when the Brazilian star Neymar will return to the stadiums, following he underwent successful surgery on his ankle at Aspetar Hospital, according to what the medical officer of his French club, Paris Saint-Germain, announced on Saturday.
And the French club had stated before Neymar’s surgery on Friday that his 31-year-old player would be out of action for up to four months, which would keep him out of all the remaining matches of the season.
“Neymar Jr underwent surgery yesterday, and it was very successful,” Paris Saint-Germain medical director Hakim Shalaby told AFP.
He continued, “Currently he is in very good condition and happy. He is not in pain and the doctors who performed the surgery are very happy.”
Neymar will remain in Aspetar Sports Hospital for at least two more days. After a period of rest, Saint-Germain will start physical therapy sessions, Shalaby added.
And he added, “After that, we will evaluate the date of his return to the stadium. It is too early to talk regarding that now. He will need crutches for a few days, and then he will be able to carry light weights.”
Shalaby explained that Neymar “will return to his normal level, but with less risk of injury.”
Neymar underwent surgery at the hands of doctors Peter Duhogue, James Calder and Rodrigo Lasmar, following an injury he sustained during the Lille match on February 19 in the French League.
And Saint-Germain, owned by Qatar since 2011, which made Neymar in 2017 the most expensive player in the world (222 million euros), brought him to Aspetar in January 2019, where he underwent a series of medical examinations and evaluations in the Qatari hospital, as part of his rehabilitation following a knee injury. The metatarsal was injured in February 2018, according to the hospital statement.
And the Capital Club indicated that Neymar “suffered from several bouts of instability in the right ankle in recent years, and the medical staff in Paris Saint-Germain recommended that he perform surgery to repair the ligament in order to avoid the risk of recurrence of the suffering,” specifying the period of absence from the stadiums between “3 and 4.” Months”.
The former Barcelona player has played 49% of Saint-Germain’s league matches since his arrival.
He was injured in the right ankle in the first match for Brazil in the World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year once morest Serbia, before returning to play in the final price.
