The two brothers, aged eight and 15, went to repair a petrol-powered quad bike that was having trouble starting around 9:30pm on Saturday. They used brake cleaner to give the carburetor a helping hand when starting.
The boys eventually started playing with the can and a lighter. First, the older man sprayed some brake cleaner on a concrete slab and set it on fire. Then he took the can in his hand and lit the beam directly from the can. At that moment, the eight-year-old walked straight into the fire. The child suffered burns on his face.
His brother and sister (13) immediately provided first aid. They took the boy to the bathroom in the apartment building and cooled the burns. The parents, who had just got home, immediately called the rescue service. The eight-year-old was taken to the children’s department of the LKH Salzburg.
