Vienna (OTS) – Minister for Women and Family Affairs Susanne Raab supports Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s proposal, presented in the Chancellor’s speech, to significantly expand childcare from the first year of life by 2030.
“The issue of childcare is one of the biggest challenges for our country. Sufficient, high-quality childcare is of great importance for families and for women and is a key factor for freedom of choice and the compatibility of work and family. On the one hand, the range and quality of childcare has a direct impact on how families can organize themselves and, on the other hand, what opportunities parents, especially mothers, can use in the professional world. The fact that the expansion of childcare is continued until 2030 is therefore essential for the families and an initiative that I support with all my strength,” said Minister for Women and Families Raab.
The expansion of childcare must take place in coordination with the federal states directly responsible for childcare and be a joint effort by the federal and state governments. “The federal government has been investing in childcare for years, most recently we decided to invest one billion euros in childcare by 2026. Further expansion requires close cooperation with the federal states and the mayors,” Raab concludes.
