Schwab at Players Championship with round of 72

Matthias Schwab was not able to improve at the prestigious The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach/Florida on Saturday. After 75 strokes at the start and 70 on Friday, a round of 72 followed for the Styrian, following which he was initially outside the top 60 in the classification with a stroke over par. Things went even worse for Sepp Straka, who needed 74 strokes like on the first day and still has three more than his compatriot before the final day.

Many players weren’t quite done with their rounds at the $25 million tournament at this point. Previously, some players had only had to finish their second round, which had been canceled the day before due to bad weather. That’s another reason why the 29-year-old Straka had to tremble until Saturday before he was certain that he had made the cut in 65th place. Schwab had been 49th at halftime of the event.

At the top, US professional Scottie Scheffler is fighting for the tournament win, which means that he is also reaching for the lead in the world golf rankings. The current number one, the Spaniard Jon Rahm, did not compete on Friday due to illness. And Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, number three in the world, missed the cut in TPC Sawgrass with 149 strokes.
