At the Honorio Delgado Espinoza Hospital, more than 200 patients suffering from kidney failure were left without treatment. 20 of the 35 hemodialysis equipment are broken due to not receiving adequate maintenance for 13 years. And 9 of these pieces of equipment have broken down in the last few weeks, causing a significant dent in the ability to care for patients.
The head of the Hemodialysis Unit of the Honorio Delgado Espinoza Regional Hospital, Eduardo Chávez Velásquez, said that only 15 pieces of equipment are kept working with pieces from other equipment. There are 40 hospitalized patients in the queue who need treatment and he blamed the previous officials of the Regional Government for this.
“There is a deficient performance by the authorities to renew the equipment. The responsibility lies with the Regional Government and unfortunately this problem is not addressed. We are requesting that (the renewal of equipment) be attended to since last year, but they do not listen to us ”

The regional health manager, Dr. Walther Oporto Pérez, pointed out that there are no personnel specialized in biomedical equipment at Honorio Delgado. They also do not have a hospital engineering unit that prevents this type of problem, according to him. That adds to the other equipment problems the hospital has, as well as personnel. The hospital infrastructure was specifically renovated between 2021 and 2022.
As recalled, this is not the first time that hemodialysis patients have problems of this type. At one time they had to be referred to Essalud, putting their lives at risk. while the problems in the main hospital of the city have not been solved over the years in the Honorio Delgado.
