The Colombian Association of Medical Schools (Ascofame) sent a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Aurora Vergara Figueroa and the Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, with the aim of convening a working group to evaluate the situation of the massive resignation of teachers of undergraduate and postgraduate medicine programs, by the taxation regimes of the tax reform.
“We are concerned regarding the effect that the resignation of a significant number of teachers, particularly medical specialists, may have on the development of academic activities in medicine programs,” the Association said.

According to Ascofame, 214 teacher resignations and 130 provisional changes in the type of teacher relationship have been submitted. In addition, he added that what is most worrying is that “resignations will increase in the coming weeks, to the extent that many teachers are finding out regarding the situation so far.”
Therefore, it was requested to convene the work table, with the purpose of “guaranteeing the proper development of the academic activities of the undergraduate and graduate programs.”
The letter was sent on March 6 of this year 2023 and signed by the president of the Board of Directors, Álvaro Enrique Romero Tapia; and by the Executive Director, Luis Carlos Ortiz Monsalve.
