Monitoring committee congratulates advocate for disabled people Christine Steger

Christine Steger has been Chair of the Independent Monitoring Committee since 2018

Vienna (OTS) The Independent Monitoring Committee congratulates Chairwoman Christine Steger on her appointment as Disability Ombudsman. With the appointment of Christine Steger, the course was set to further promote access to justice for people with disabilities in Austria.

With tireless commitment and extensive knowledge, Christine Steger has been chairing the Independent Monitoring Committee since 2018. She set up the Office of the Monitoring Committee and positioned the Monitoring Committee as an independent body to monitor the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Austria as an important voice.

“The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will also be my guiding principle in my new role as a disability advocate. As a disability advocate and the first woman with disabilities in this role, I will work for the full participation of people with disabilities in Austria, especially women with disabilities.”so Christine Steger.

The members of the monitoring committee welcome the decision of the Ministry of Social Affairs. Tobias Buchner (deputy MA chairman): “I am delighted with the appointment of Christine Steger. She is an excellent choice for this position as she will be a highly competent, articulate and above all energetic advocate for the implementation of the rights of people with disabilities.” Daniela Rammel (deputy MA chair) adds: “With Christine Steger, a woman with disabilities is taking on this important task for the first time, which is particularly gratifying. Through her experience in campaigning for the rights of people with disabilities and her chairing of the Independent Monitoring Committee, she will represent the interests of people with disabilities in the best possible way.”
