With Live Suite, Desktop Metal is launching a new software hub for full control of the 3D printing process on all four of the group’s platforms. The package consists of four parts: build, manage, learn and support. All applications run on Live Platform, Desktop Metal’s cloud platform.
Through the platform, users not only have access to the AM platforms of Desktop Metal, Exone, Desktop Metal, ETEC and Desktop Health; they can also use application-specific add-ons. Examples include Autopilot, which automates build preparation for both dental and other parts-specific applications, and Live Monitor, which will be available soon to remotely view jobs as they move through the AM process. Features such as automatic nesting and print time estimation are also included in the package.
Four modules, for each printer platform
The whole package consists of four modules. Live Sinter is intended for the Desktop Metal Shop system, the production system and the X system, the binder jetting metal printers. With the software you can convert a 3D model into a printable design in 20 minutes. Live Build MFG is the software tool for ExOne machines, including sand printers for foundries, but also 3D printers for wood, metal and ceramics. Next year, customers who still use X-Prep from ExOne will be transferred to the new software. The third tool is Live Build DLP for Desktop Health and ETEC (formerly EnvisionTec) DLP printers. Here too, customers who still use the old software will be transferred to Live Suite in the coming year. Finally, Live Studio is the software intended for users of Studio System 2, the desktop metal printer, among others. This package supports slicing and build preparation.
No other software needed yet
“AM 2.0 is a digital manufacturing process ultimately driven by software,” said Ric Fulop, founder and CEO of Desktop Metal. “Live Suite is the culmination of six years of development by our global software team to make AM technology easy to use and ensure the highest quality is achieved.” According to him, the software ensures successful applications on the various 3D printers. Desktop Metal will ship Live Suite as standard with most hardware during the course of the year. In principle, users no longer need any other software to control their AM process.
