Dean of doctors from Sucre called on new professionals to practice with vocation

The doctors from Carupana did not miss this March 10, the date on which their day is celebrated, and they carried out a series of union activities, which began very early with a thanksgiving mass in the Santa Catalina de Carúpano church, a scene that served, In addition, to honor the gastroenterologist and radiologist Luis Ponciano Rodríguez Brito, dean of medical professionals in the Sucre state.

At 85 years old, and with a 60-year uninterrupted professional career, Rodríguez Brito is widely known in the area. He called the new professionals to exploit his vocation. “Those who do not have a medical vocation should not get involved in that, if what they like is money, be a merchant, if they like politics, get involved in politics, but being a doctor is an apostolate, for the humble, for the poor, otherwise it is useless”.

For his part, the general secretary of the College of Physicians in Carúpano, Juan Carlos Luiggi, highlighted that they fulfilled an extensive program to remember the birth of José María Vargas, and honor all those who nobly carry out their work in the Sucre state.

He took the opportunity to make the call, from the medical union to the authorities at its three levels, to review “the health crisis”, which is being suffered regionally and nationally. “From our arena we want to offer our helping hand to try, in any case, to improve medical care for our population, which is our mission.”

Luiggi pointed out that in Carúpano there is a group of men and women who have stayed in the country and have excellent qualifications for this task and want to continue providing care to the population.

Problems

The medical professional drew attention to problems such as the lack of supplies in hospitals, which he considers the dismantling of the outpatient network and the low qualifications of some graduates from unrecognized institutions. He also pointed out that there is an abandonment of health care in rural areas that is being taken over by entities such as Caritas.

On the other hand, he urged Mayor Julio Rodríguez to create a Municipal Health Institute or municipal health clinic, which as a College of Physicians they are willing to endorse, so that there is an entity that depends on local resources.
