TAIPEI (Archyde.com) – Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen plans to visit Los Angeles and New York as part of her visit to Central America, Xu Jiaqing, chairman of Taiwan’s Overseas Affairs Commission, said on Thursday.

Taiwan’s presidential office has not confirmed the date of the visit.

Tsai is expected to meet Speaker of the House of Representatives McCarthy in the United States, sources familiar with the matter said. Beijing said it had “serious concerns” regarding Tsai’s plans, and said he had sought an explanation from the United States.

In response to questions from lawmakers in the Legislative Yuan, Chairman Xu said that an event would be held in New York where the president would meet with Taiwanese living abroad. He said the West Coast is likely to host such an event in Los Angeles.
