Less than two weeks before Domenico Tedesco’s first selection as coach of the Red Devils (Friday, March 17), the Belgian Union announced the arrival of the five assistants of the Italian-German.
The staff is made up as follows: assistant coaches Andreas Hinkel and Thomas Schneider, goalkeeping coach Max Urwantschky, physical trainer Vladimir Cepzanovic and performance analyst Umberto Tedesco. The last being the brother of our new coach. Luke Benstead, who was already the main analyst during Roberto Martinez’s time, remains on board as assistant coach and performance analyst.
Thomas Schneider is undoubtedly the most famous name since he had been assistant to Joachim Low between 2014 and 2018. He then continued to work with the German federation as director of recruitment until 2021. An arrival that we already announced a few days ago.
Five staff members to surround Domenico Tedesco is less than under Roberto Martinez. But the Belgian Union justifies this choice for a more compact staff: “For the first time since the Covid, we have a classic calendar with five international periods of two matches each and there will be no new European Championship until next year. We therefore do not need an extended general staff (sports, medical, logistics and general management) and this is the reason why we have reduced the number of total staff members without making any concessions on quality” , explained Jelle Schelstraete, operational director football in the press release from the Belgian Union.
In addition to the sports staff, the Belgian Union has also communicated the names of the members of the medical staff of the Red Devils. If we find Kristof Sas there as a doctor, there is no longer any trace of Lieven Maesschalk.
