Kämna finished 17th, five seconds behind Roglic, which was enough for the long-awaited jump to the top.
“I’m super happy that it was enough to take over the overall classification. I think it will be very, very difficult to defend it. But it’s a wonderful snapshot. I’m very happy regarding it,” said Kämna.
“I didn’t really think regarding the jersey because I underestimated the final lap. When we first went up, I knew I had a chance. But the race was really tough and I really struggled. In front of me there was another hole in the last corner and I just mightn’t close it anymore. But luckily it was enough. I’m really happy because this is my first leader’s jersey in a tour. Tomorrow’s climb should actually suit me better than that explosive finale today, but for now let’s just enjoy the moment,” said the 26-year-old.
