After Sergio Massa’s announcement of a differentiated dollar rate for regional economies as of next April 1, businessmen from Misiones put numbers on the “mate dollar” to boost the sector’s exports.
“We are complicated and we need to start it up”, expressed Guillermo Fachinello, president of the Economic Confederation of Misiones (CEM). The local industry expects an exchange rate between 280 and 300 pesos, according to what Fachinello told Misiones Online.
Regarding the situation of the missionary companies, the president of the CEM pointed out that “it is difficult to program many months, things that in a normal country would not be a problem. Really here with the quantity and diversity of industries that we have: weed, tea, tobacco and wood, we can triple our exports if they give us the clearest and most enduring rules of the game over time”.
March may be the month with the fewest dollars
“The economic part is something that is making it very difficult for us, the exchange gap, we are settling at 190 pesos per dollar, less withholdings. There are supplies that we have to buy at 400 pesos per dollar because it is very difficult for us to import ”, he added.
Regarding the differentiated dollar for the regional economies, Fachinello commented to the missionary medium: “I am very happy and we hope they materialize, the businessman is equally cautious.”
“Now we have to see this dollar (because of the spread) and how long. We don’t know how long it will be, we we are asking between 280 and 300 pesos. We always explain, the national government does not imply so much, but it does imply what we can contribute, generate work, contribute foreign currency to the province and the Nation,” he explained.

The governor of Misiones, Oscar Herrera Ahuad, spoke with Minister Sergio Massa last weekend and, in this regard, pointed out that “we are on the right track as we had discussed in the last meeting, in order to move forward with the regional economies of the province, wood, tobacco, tea”.
“The important thing is that I was able to have a conversation following that announcement and that we have very good chances of doing it before April 1stwhich is when the differential dollar for the part of viticulture would begin to apply, ”said the missionary president.
