RCA prices could rise even more in 2023: New benchmark rates up 41% for some drivers

​RCA prices might rise even more this year. The new RCA reference rates, a benchmark for consumers regarding final car insurance prices over the next 6 months, have been published by the FSA and are higher for all drivers, in some cases by more than 41%, compared to the reference rates in August or February 2022.

The Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) published the new RCA reference rates on Tuesday evening.

The new RCA reference rates are higher and by over 41% for some drivers

Highest RCA prices they will be available to car owners younger than or equal to 30 years old who drive cars with a cylinder capacity greater than 2,500 cc for which the ASF has announced an RCA reference rate of 4,709 lei.

The rate is approximately 14% higher than in August 2022, when its value was 4,140 lei, and 28% higher than in February 2022, when the reference rate for this category was 3,551 lei.

For drivers in the same age category who own cars with a cylinder capacity less than or equal to 1,200 cmc, the RCA reference rate announced by ASF is now 1,822 lei, up 19% compared to August 2022 (when this rate was 1532 lei) and by 41.7% compared to February 2022 (when this rate was 1286 lei).

At the opposite pole, the lowest RCA prices car owners between the ages of 51-60 who drive cars with a cylinder capacity of less than or equal to 1,200 cc will continue to receive payments, but also for those prices will be higher than before.

Thus, the new RCA reference rate announced by ASF for these drivers is 1,006 lei, an increase of 17% compared to August 2022, when this rate was 860 lei, and 32% compared to February 2022, when the rate for this category it was 762 lei.

What RCA increases are in other categories of drivers and electric cars

  • For drivers between the ages of 31-40, the new RCA reference rates vary between 1,114 lei and 1,823 lei, depending on the cylinder capacity of the car.
  • For drivers between the ages of 41-50, the new RCA reference rates vary between 1,076 lei and 2,912 lei, depending on the cylinder capacity of the car.
  • For drivers between the ages of 51-60, the new reference rates vary between 1,006 lei and 2,853 lei, depending on the cylinder capacity of the car.
  • For drivers aged over 60, the new reference rates vary between 1,036 lei and 2,767 lei, depending on the cylinder capacity of the car.

For the first time, ASF also published the reference rates for owners of electric cars, prices that vary between 1,397 lei (51-60 years) and 2,742 lei.

And firms will pay more for RCA

RCA rates for legal entities now vary between 1354 lei (cars with a cylinder capacity of 1601-1800 cc) and 1895 lei (those over 2500 cc).

In the case of electric cars, the RCA reference rate is 2736 lei.

For comparison, in August 2022, these reference rates were between 1149 lei and 1652 lei.

In February 2022, these reference rates were even lower, between 1038 lei and 1483 lei.
