equal opportunity is the key to a better world

Pope Francis on Wednesday denounced violence and prejudice once morest women and said equal pay and opportunities might help create a more peaceful and sustainable world.

In a foreword to a book published by Vatican News on International Women’s Day, Francis emphasized the differences between men and women, but called for “equality in diversity” on “a playing field open to all players”.

“I like to believe that if women might enjoy full equality of opportunity, they might contribute substantially to the change needed for a world of peace, inclusion, solidarity and integral sustainability,” the pope said.

Also Wednesday, at the end of the weekly audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope referred to Women’s Day by asking the crowd “a round of applause for all women, because they deserve it.”

Francis has appointed more women to senior positions since becoming pope and said last year that “every time a woman gets a position in the Vatican, things get better.”
