Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir confirmed Minister of TransportThe Ministry plans to link railways with neighboring countries to the south by extending the second line of the express train, from Abu Simbel to Wadi Halfa in Sudan, and to the west by extending the first line of the electric express network to Salloum and from there to Benghazi.
The Minister of Transport added, during his participation in the World High-Speed Rail Conference, which is organized by the International Federation of Railways this year in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco, that as a continuation of the Egyptian government’s efforts to expand sustainable development projects, the Ministry of Transport has developed a comprehensive strategy for the transition to operating green mass transit systems from Through the expansion of the implementation of advanced, urban and environmentally friendly electric traction transportation projects, these projects are represented in the following:
The Light Electric Train (LRT) project (Al-Salam – Tenth of Ramadan – Administrative Capital) with a length of 105 km and 19 stations. The first and second phases, with a length of regarding 70 km, with 12 stations, were opened in July 2022. The third and fourth phases, with a length of 35 km, with 7 stations, are currently being implemented.
A project is being implemented Monorail East of the Nile (Administrative Capital) with a length of 56.5 km and 22 stations, and Monorail West of the Nile (6th of October) with a length of 43.7 km and 13 stations.
The development of the first and second lines of the Cairo metro and the completion of the implementation of the third line of the metro (Adly Mansour – Imbaba / Cairo University) with a length of 41.2 km and the number of 34 stations, as well as the construction of the fourth line of the metro (6th of October – New Cairo) with a length of 46.5 km. Currently, the implementation of the first phase of it (6th of October – Fustat), with a length of 19 km, with 17 stations.
The construction of the sixth line of the metro (Al Khosus – New Maadi) in cooperation with the French Alstom company, with a length of 35 km and 27 stations.
Alexandria metro development project (Abu Qir – Misr station) with a length of 21.7 km.
– A project to develop and rehabilitate the sand tram with a length of 14 km.
Implementation, for the first time, of the BRT electric bus project on the ring road, with a length of 110 km, to prevent microbuses from stopping at the top of the ring road, and to encourage citizens to reduce the use of private cars through the use of a distinct and environmentally friendly passenger transport method.
Replacing and renewing the public transport fleet in cooperation with companies specialized in the production of environmentally friendly mass transit buses that run on electricity or natural gas.
– Operating eco-friendly electric buses as a model whose application will be expanded at the level of the Republic.
