BOLZANO. A long March 8th. Once once more this year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Bolzano is putting in place numerous initiatives carried out thanks to the precious contribution of partner bodies, institutions and associations of the «Women Empowerment» network.
The calendar of events presented in the town hall is packed, which from 8 March to 2 April will enliven the city with moments of dialogue, art and workshops to get to the heart of all-female stories, as well as the inauguration of the new «WE_empowerment, l 8 March at 3 pm in Piazza Domenicani.
Councilor Chiara Rabini reiterated “the strong sense of institutional responsibility on the issue of women”. The goal: “A more just and equitable society, where women have their role and the recognition they deserve”. Also at the table were the councilor Johanna Ramoser and the vice president of the Equal Opportunities Commission Donatella Califano, who underlined “the inclusiveness of this year’s activities, which will also see the women of Albania and Iran as protagonists”.
Among the many topics to be explored there will also be that of forced marriages which, as Christine Clignon (Gea association) clarifies, constitutes «a very present but little-themed phenomenon despite the 12 million girls forced to marry all over the world» and which will be discussed on the occasion of the presentation of the book «Libere. Our no to forced marriages» by Martina Castigliani: appointment on 8 March, 6 pm at the Filmclub. This will be followed at 20.30 by the screening of the film “Sonita” by Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami.
The gender gap also affects the world of work, says Ana Agolli of the Kaleidoskopio association, which has been active since 2009 by offering a help service for active job searches. This year you will propose the “Word and verse” workshop to work on self-determination and to face discrimination and vulnerability.
Still on the theme of personal growth, the Liscià association, represented by Xenia Trojer, will create a podcast in collaboration with Rsf inBlu entitled “Liscià on air – stories of realization”, which will give voice to ten women from South Tyrol who will tell their professional life experiences.
Women will also talk regarding themselves through art with Artemisia, a project by the Associazione la Strada, which will set up the exhibition “Dirty laundry washes together” to openly address the issue of violence through participatory art, as Valentina Stecchi recounts.
Remaining in the art world, the Arcimboldo Club will pay homage to all women with its «Ladies» exhibition. The goal, says the president Alda Picone, is “to help women focus on art as a way to throw emotions out onto a blank canvas, even managing to overcome them”.
Among the female figures who have marked history, Musicablu has chosen to tell Aretha Franklin through the film «Respect» (on 10 March at 8.30 pm, via Sorrento 12/a).
There will also be stories that come from afar but which we feel today as very close. This is the case of the migratory experiences of Albanian women to Italy recounted in the volume «Women of Albania in Italy. Reflections, testimonies, emotions», published by the Pan-Albanian Arberi Association in collaboration with the “Confronti” study center and those of Iranian women who, thanks to the windows in the Walther passage and the various opportunities for discussion organized by representatives of the Iranian community, inform citizenship on the serious events in Iran on a daily basis.
