The UN Secretary General will meet with Zelenskiy in Kyiv

The Secretary General arrived in Poland on Tuesday morning, from where he continued to Ukraine the same day to negotiate the extension of the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports, said his spokesmen, Stéphane Dujarric and Farhan Haq.

António Guterres is currently in Ukraine, Farhan Haq said at a press conference held at the UN headquarters in New York. Stéphane Dujarric, who accompanied the Secretary General on his trip, announced in a statement that the Secretary General will discuss grain exports with Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Wednesday.

The agreement, signed by the UN, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey on July 22 and renewable every four months, aimed at allowing the export of grain stuck in Ukrainian ports due to the fighting, has helped ease the global food crisis caused by the war.

About 20 million tons of grain were exported within the framework of the agreement, the contract extended in November expires on March 18.

Despite the fierce fighting, a few thousand tenacious residents remained in Bahmut

The UN Secretary General is scheduled to return to New York on Thursday. In response to a question, Farhan Haq said that no visit to Moscow was on the agenda, but before his departure, António Guterres had a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

Details of the visit were not made public. António Guterres previously visited Ukraine in April and August last year.
