Incredible epilogue in Visé. The shell discovered by workers on Monday was not one. It was actually a signal socket.
Friday evening, a shell of regarding 50 centimeters was discovered on a construction site in the heart of Visé. The site manager then asked for it to be covered with a pile of sand. It was finally on Monday that the authorities were notified of this discovery. The city center was closed and deminers searched for the explosive device, without success.
This Tuesday, the City of Visé returns to this episode in a press release. “In the evening, during the broadcast of a report on the television news of the RTL-TVI channel, the municipal technical agent in charge of the Place Reine Astrid site, discovered new photos of the machine“, she wrote.”Photos taken by workers from the TEGEC company but never communicated to the police or the municipal authorities.“
And there, surprise, the agent directly identifies the machine. “It is absolutely not a shell but a signal socket, material used to hold road signs in the ground“, continues the City. “This casing had certainly been lost in the embankment of a previous earthwork on the square.“
“Unacceptable and irresponsible”
The municipal technical agent summoned the workers of TEGEC this Tuesday “to inform them of the consequences of their action and remind them of the safety and information rules to adopt in such a situation.“
The City states that “this situation is unacceptable on the part of this subcontractor. This serious lack of communication and information is irresponsible. If it was really an explosive device, leaving it in place for a whole weekend posed a significant risk for the population of Vise. The announcement of the loss of the shell might have created a wave of panic among the citizens.“
